Carrie Taylor, Big Y’s Lead Registered Dietitian, will explain how the NuVal® Scoring System helps shoppers find nutritious foods in seconds versus minutes— so you can reach your nutrition goals without missing a beat. You’ll gain a better understanding how foods are evaluated by the NuVal® Scoring System as well as how to best use NuVal® Scores to “trade up” while grocery shopping. Please note: The speaker requests you invite your organization’s staff trainer as a guest to learn how to educate staff and/or clients on best ways to implement the program. *

Overview:  “Aromatherapy:  What is it? Why use it? Come hear about the benefits of Aromatherapy and how to integrate the use of essential oils into your daily life. This interactive presentation will activate your senses and jar your memories. Aromatherapy has shown to be beneficial with the Alzheimer’s and dementia population in: decreased agitation, increase in memory recall, increase in conversation, decrease in “Sundowner syndrome and  increase in appetite.

Overview:  Bright Spot Therapy Dogs, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to placing well trained certified therapy dog teams in meaningful programs that provide comfort and caring through the human-canine bond. Imagine for a moment what a bright spot it would be in a lonely person’s day to have a visit from a certified therapy dog. The simple act of stroking a dog’s head can lower blood pressure and stimulate conversation and physical activity. Our special volunteers serve in a wide variety of settings including hospitals, nursing homes, schools, libraries and other facilities where therapy dogs are needed.

Guest Speaker: Dr. Cynthia Jacelon, RN, FAAN
Overview:   Dr. Cynthia Jacelon, RN, FAAN, will present her research on attributed dignity on older adults. Over the last 10 years,Dr. Jacelon has developed a program of research focused on the dignity needs of community dwelling older adults. First she developed a definition of the concept of attributed dignity, then she developed an instrument to measure dignity in older adults, currently she has been conducting research with older adults to understand how they maintain their dignity when it is challenged. She will discuss her work and the implications for professionals who work with this vulnerable population.
